Stipple.....do you like it??

Some people can't stand it others love it, my customer Vivian loves stipple and wanted stipple in the background of the butterflies.

Vivian has made this quilt for one of her granddaughters. I used Madeira polyneon in a cream for the stipple.

I used Gunold variegated for the large tripple cross hatch.................
please click on this one for the sparkle
Vivian added butterflies scattered around the border........................

I used a Metallic thread called "Illuminations" for the feather on the border, it was terrible...........I  stuck with it, wasting heaps of thread because of the breakages, when I finished I threw it in the bin! I have forgotten where I got it from, maybe it is old, old thread does break.

I hope Vivian's granddaughter will be happy!

As wandering around my garden the other day I spotted this Foxglove.

Blogger's Quilt Festival 2012 !

Amy's Creative Side  is hosting an online quilters festival

Here is my entry. I did not make this quilt, it was made by Jill at a class at The Country Yard our local patchwork shop, learning several patchwork techniques.  This quilt recently won viewers choice at the shops annual exhibition.
Measuring approximately 68" x 68", Warm & Natural cotton batting . I used a variety of threads, Madeira Polyneons, Sew-Art, Mettler etc.

an end to the mystery

The Country Yard had another mystery stitchery this year and I did the quilting. I used a stencil & some of my favourite threads, Madeira Polyneon's & Gunold

Mmmmm winter my favourite time of the year!!

The stitcheries where done with Aurifil 12 weight variegated thread and Nancy Halvorsen range of fabrics. The design is exclusive to The Country Yard.
This is the stencil design I used for the large squares, then I modified the design to fit the triangles next to the season stitcheries.

look at the cute mittens! see the nice variegation in the thread?

The vines have sweet little YoYo's that were added after I quilted.

gone to the birds!

Ngaire's been at it again! Busy, busy............................

Ngaire wanted me to quilt the background to look like sky & water....I hope I pulled it off.

This wall hanging was in a New Zealand Quilter magazine issue #79 called 'Stitchbirds' or the Maori name Hihi. Stitchbird is a member of the honey eater family, like two New Zealand honey eater birds the Tui & Bellbird, they feed on a mixture of nectar, fruit & insects.
If you missed the post with Ngaire's Wood Pigeon you can go here
I have a couple of other customer quilts finished, but I can't show you them just yet. Here is a sneaky peak of one I am working on now..............

I hope your week is off to a great start, it was a l~ o~ n~ g weekend here, Friday was teacher only day, then today was Labour day.

All Things Chrsitmas

Christmas is just around the corner, so I have been busy making a shop sample for The Country Yard
Designed by Gail Pan called " All Things Christmas". We used a range of fabrics by Primitive Gatherings called " Seasonal Little Gatherings" . I used Aurifil 12wt thread for the stitcheries.
You will see from the photo's I did very simple quilting, except for the 'curling ribbon' on the border, all the quilting was done using my walking foot.
Available as a kit for your convenience.

A few of the stitcheries.....................

Using the same fabric range, Kerryn made a Trio of Cushion's ( available as part of a class on the 6th November )

As you can see these are just tops, this photo was taken just after I had quilted them.....they are now in fact cushions!
If you would like to see these and more fabulous projects and you are in Northland next Saturday 27th please come on out the The Country Yard to join in with our annual exhibition. We have a quilt exhibit, challenge quilts, spot prizes, live music, yummy nibbles all set on a stunning property.
