The last quilts of the year

Hello poppets and wee Christmas elves.....................................

Liz has kept me busy through out the year making many quilts, most them have been for gifts. This Whack n' Stack quilt made from bali fabrics is so bright and vibrant.

Liz asked for an all over quilting design which has worked well on this quilt. I think Liz has decided to give this quilt to herself after giving so many away I think she deserves a quilt for herself don't you!

Next is a quilt Marilyn made for her partner a Mariners Compass variation. Marilyn had set ideas and even the thread she wanted me to use. Simply ditch stitch around the arcs not around the points a stipple or a squiggle for the stars and something using a variegated thread for the black border.

Next is something Christmasy..................................................

Lois is another customer that has kept me busy this year, she has been a busy quilt maker indeed. Lois has featured many times on my blog, well her quilts at least! Lois is fondly known as 'The Cat Lady' because if can buy something with cats on it she will, fabric, personalized number plate, shoes, earrings, you name she'll have it!

If the quilt does not feature cats then I am asked to quilt cats!

Swirls have featured quite a bit in my quilting lately, for these swirls I added the odd cluster of holly leaves and berries for a nice touch to the background quilting.

Lois asked me not to do any quilting on the three Christmas trees as she had plans to embellish them with buttons and Ric Rac etc.
A bright red flannel backing was selected for the backing, so snuggly and Cheery!

Last but not least a quilt made by Margaret for a wedding quilt for a member of the family.

Beautifully appliqued Dresden Plates with centers of butterflies made in the prettiest floral fabrics.
Margaret asked for simple quilting and because she had pressed her sashing seams open I quilted a 'serpentine' over the seams, I think it has added a softness to the quilting.

I did ditch stitch around the plates and butterflies and on the outer sashing (these seams weren't pressed open) finishing off the border with a loose stipple.

So there you go, the last of the quilts for the year, now it's time to rest and refuel for the next year. Many of my customers have already started giving me quilts to keep me busy next year, I look forward to working on each and everyone of them. Thank you so much for your support and trust throughout the year. Wishing you all a Merry Cheery Creative Christmas and a Healthy Sewing-up- a- Storm New Year!

  3. Wonderful work--I especially like the swirls with the holly thrown in for good measure. That is a great look for holiday quilts. I have a red/green top that may need that treatment, if I can get the hang of it. : )
