On a personal front I gave it one last push & finished my Atomic Star Burst quilt........now I just need to talk nicely to my quilter.......

A panel quilt and a log cabin quilt.

Hello and welcome, today I share two quilts that I quilted for The Country Yard , both were launched yesterday at the shops New Years Launch, an annual event show casing what's new on offer at the shop.

First up is a quilt made from a panel by Kathy Schmitz called "Olde Towne" and the  coordinating fabric range "Sturbridge". I loaded the quilt top, cushion and cushion backing together on backing fabric and batting.

The quilt top and cushion back was quilted with an all over design called "Slick" and the cushion front had some custom quilting. I used Glide thread the colour Mocha.

See how that thread blends nicely without taking over from the quilt. The cushion was made from the three left over panels from the quilt.

Kerryn (owner of The Country Yard) had me make the cushion up and machine bind the cushion and quilt.

Next is a lovely log cabin quilt. Who loves log cabin quilts? I am yet to make myself one, how about you, do you love them, have you made yourself one?

Before quilting.

Once the three 'ingredients' were loaded I began with feathering the creamy areas.............................

I used Gunold thread in a very soft variegation of creams and beige's. These wreaths of feathers help define the cream areas as well as showing off the on point setting.

             We couldn't have those borders feeling left out on all the featheriness could we!

After the feathering was finished I moved onto stitching in those ditches. Then the treatment of the dark 'logs' began.

The centre piece I quilted a creek key using Glide thread "Warm Grey 11'. The other dark logs I quilted straight lines that radiated out, again helping to keep that on point look crisp and clear.

The red sashing was happy with a nice little swirl design. This quilt is being offered as a class at The Country Yard, see their website for more details.

Helen Stubbings & Kathy Schmitz fabrics

                                                 
                                                    Hello and welcome good people!
    Today I am sharing with you Fleur's pretty baby quilt and one of my own quilts finished.

Isn't this a  pretty little quilt, so soft and sweet, made from Helen Stubbings fabrics, simple piecing and simple quilting.

                         Fleur asked for simple ditch stitching and cross hatching.............done!
A photo of the back shows off the simplicity, the use of wool batting has worked well.

I am excited to share a finish of my own, my Wendy Briggs stitcheries using a fat quarter bundle by Kathy Schmitz , her fabric range "Piecemakers".

I really like the traditional style of cross hatching across the stitcheries, to do this I always used a fine blending thread. The stitcheries themselves were completed using Cottage Garden Threads and Aurifil threads.

Throw in a funky feather, orange peel, swirls, straight lines, curling ribbon and a swagged border and you have a nicely textured quilt.

        Part of the fabric bundle was a panel that I thought worked well as part of the backing.

     A photograph in front of my Wisteria bush on a warm fine spring day was pleasing.
I have had a florist friend staying for a couple of days and I thought it would be nice to have a vase of freshly "'picked & plonked in a vase" display in the guest bedroom.

         A pretty sad attempt when you see the lovely bunch my friend made me from her garden!

I love the white Protea (which she grows) nestled in some other pretty flowers and wrapped up with some grapevine.

a mystery quilt from The Country Yard

           Earlier last week I finished quilting another of The Country Yard's mystery stitcheries.
                                              This one is called "Quilters Theme".

A lovely mix of exclusive stitchery designs and simple piecing. The Country Yard's mysteries are always popular and sellout super quick!

On the string pieced blocks I quilted curved cross hatching, there was of course the 'must do' ditch stitching.

The stitchery blocks were fun not just because of the quilting themed items but the shape of the blocks. I 'ditch' stitched around the main feature of the stitcheries, which is a time consuming but worth it..

The range of fabric is called:"Piecemakers" by Kathy Schmitz. I am using the same range for my own personal quilt using Wendy Briggs stitchery patterns. See here for that post (BTW.....I have finished all the stitcheries, I just need to complete the top and of course quilt it!)
