Farewell quilt

A few weeks ago I was contacted by Gina who lives in the South Island, asking  if it was at all possible to do a quilting job for her on very short notice, I said yes, but we had to keep in mind how long the post can take..............well all I can say is hats off the the courier services.....SO quick. From the quilt arriving in my hot little hands to quilting to delivery back to Gina, ONE week tops!!
What do you do when a work colleague is leaving? You make a quilt!! What do you do when you are the only quilter at the work place? Make a quilt!!
Gina works at a Doctor's surgery where a well loved doctor was leaving, so several colleagues all made a block representing her life & interests. Gina said she was amazed when she got the blocks back at the fabulous job everyone made, keep in mind apart from Gina, none are quilters!
Enjoy!.....................................(for the full effect of this amazing quilt, click on the photo's)

The Red Barn is where local concerts & plays are held to where the special Doctor is a performer.

The four birds represent the four parts to the Doctor's personality.

The love of music & singing.

                                          Perfect for a Doctor!

This person is widely named an "Angel".

For the love of the Theatre.

                                           For the love of wine!!!

With much travelling, these hills & river a well known in the Hamner area.
The border is the road, state highway 7a, a weekly trip from Christchurch to Hamner & over the bridge.

Well known bridge in the area.

  5. What a sweet quilt - I can see that a lot of thought went into the making.

Thanks for your kind words you left on my blog -- there's simply no place for ego in the quilting world, is there?

    Have a great weekend.

  8. This is fantastic!! It would be really special anyways, but that it was made by NONquilters makes it even more awesome. You did an excellent job on the quilting. I think my favorite quilting is in the heart and stethoscope block. but then, I like the feathers too.....
