Quilting for Laura!

Hello Quilty Friends!
It's June & wouldn't you know it June is my birthday month. Another year wiser??
Ok no comments about that thank you 😀
Over the last few years my long time friend & decided to stop giving each other birthday presents & spend a few days together enjoying each others company. We don't cook, we eat out or buy takeaways & knit, talk (oh do we DO LOTS OF that!) & we go go for a scenic bike ride somewhere. Last year I combined my birthday trip south with a quilt retreat. It's located at one of my most favourite places. It's fully catered, so once again a few more days of no cooking, that's always an added bonus. Last year another friend joined me at retreat, what a cool way to spend time with crafty friends.
This year my lovely friend Julie from My Threadbare Life joined me at retreat. We sewed, ate together, went for walks together & even "escaped" retreat to go out for a nice coffee & some opshopping. If you follow Julie you will know she is a pro at finding some amazing treasures at opshops, I may have pointed out a few goodies to add to her pile!
Julie & I swapped birthday presents too as our birthdays are both in June.
Before I headed away I worked hard to finish Laura's three quilts so I could deliver them personally & finally meet her. Let me show you Laura's beautiful quilts:

Here are a couple of collages' of my birthday week:

Now that Julie has her birthday present from me I can show you! I found a gorgeous piece of vintage silk dupioni which a quilted into a table runner for her:

It's VERY difficult to capture the true colour.

From the same fabric I made a cushion.
As yet I haven't listed it in my shop - but it is for sale! 😉

Speaking of my shop, while I was away I was over the moon to be notified I sold the Satin Duffle Bag! Whoopwhoop....as a small business owner I am ALWAYS happy when this happens.
Have you visited my shop? Here's the link if you are interested, perhaps you know someone else that might like to go shopping with you??

"Golly Gee" it's a birthday quilt for Di! And some jungle animals

A friend recently celebrated a notable birthday and because her friends know who much she loves Golly's they each made a block.

Each Golly block was raw edged applique using either machine or hand blanket stitch. Once all the blocks were made, they were pulled together with cheery bright 2 1/2" squares. Then a lovely aqua/jade sashing and border fabric.
My contribution was the quilting.

I quilted a continuous curve in all the squares and a swirl in the Golly backgrounds except for the centre block, here I wanted a point of difference in the quilting so I quilted pebbles with the odd small swirl.

The border was treated with swags and finished off with fine picket fence quilting to make the swags stand out, which I did so continuously like the curves on the squares. Taking a little time I can usually work out a continuous quilting plan to minimize stops and starts.

Of course we quilters are NOT fans of embellishments and buttons, so these were left until after I had finished the quilting to be attached.

Di will even enjoy the back of her cute quilt................................................

Di tells me she loves the quilt and it will be going on holiday with her in her camper!

Kim whipped up this lovely fun quilt for one of her grandchildren who was turning one.

Silly me forgot to take a photo of the whole quilt! Anyhow the centre is one whole piece of fabric, then Kim had attached borders in some coordinating fabrics, then had me quilt an all over quilting design called "Jungle Vines".

All this using Fantastico "Desert Sage" thread over Matilda's Own polyester batting.

Some Kind of Wonderful!

Annie Downs  design's the most yummiest quilts and here is one I recently quilted......."Some Kind of Wonderful".........with a slightly different look to Annie's original.
For the best viewing, click on the photo's.
A group effort for Aurely's 50th birthday. Aurely loves pink, & pastel's. Six friends each made a block they fancied. For a nice uniformed looked & using fabric we knew Aurely would like, we used Bunny Hill's range ~ "Puttin on the Ritz", with a touch of a green fabric. Most blocks were chosen from Annie's book, some were from other sources of inspiration. As one of Aurely's friends, rather than make a block I offered to do the quilting.
