Summer and Autumn........................

This was the feeling and look when I quilted Linda's 'Queen of the May' and Kerryn's 'Autumn Song' Quilts! Linda's quilt was fabulous to work on as there was rain, hail, wind and very dark sky's.............
Here's the 'before' quilting on Linda's quilt..............

photo from Linda

Now the 'after' quilting.........................

Linda asked for light custom quilting of this Kathy Doughty inspired quilt from Material Obsession.
Using Glide thread in the colours 'Military Gold' and 'Mocha' over wool/polyester batting I quilted what I am naming Vintage Feathers on the border and the background, then a series of curved lines, swirls, spirals and a bit of ruler work for some straight lines.

Isn't this a spot of sunshine on a cloudy day? Along with the quilt top Linda posted a sweet vintage sheet for the backing.

To see more of Linda's delightful quilt and her progress of making this quilt, please pop over to her blog for a look. If you type "Queen of the May" into her search bar (top left hand side) all the posts relating to this quilt will show up. Thank you Linda I look forward to collaborating with you again!

Next is Kerryn's 'Autumn Song' quilt made from a range of fabrics by One Sister Design's.

A panel bordered with pieced blocks made from the same fabric range. Look at that panel, looks just like crazy patch!

Again I was asked for light custom quilting, a simple meander over the panel, some loops or big e's and little e's and cross hatching on the pieced blocks.

This quilt was given the 'Full Quiltmekiwi Binding Service'. To find this scrumptious panel and coordinating fabrics please see Kerryn and the team at The Country Yard.

Non quilty news........Simon fans know how much he loves his Biscornu.......................

A small hole developed a couple of weeks back, but I have been so busy procrastinating about fixing it that is has grown into the perfect place for Simon to kneed into - purring like crazy and stuffing his head into!

What to do???

Welcome Home!

Dave Dobbyn is so iconic to all that is Kiwi-ness here in New Zealand. I love the following song.

I think of this song as I welcome home my quilt, 'Folk Art Blooms'.

Designed by Buggy Barn. I made this quilt ready for The Country Yards New Years Launch in March 2013. We sold this quilt as a Block of the Month. The quilt was successful with many falling in love with it as I did. Now we have sold all we had to offer so I got to bring this quilt home.

I used a black batting and batting. Several different black fabrics were used for the backgrounds which help make the applique (raw edge) say: 'hello world, look at me!'

I had fun with the quilting, echoing the applique and flowing feathers on the borders.

Funny how in different lights the black is bluey/grey.............................

By now I am sure you would have noticed my 'helper'..........................................

"This old quilt? Really! She needs a thing of REAL beauty like me!"

Back when I made the quilt I commissioned my dear friend Julie ( see her amazing blog and you too can easily open your wallet to her beautiful handmade goodies!)   to make me a doll from some of the left over fabrics. I also made a cushion, using needle turn for the applique so shoppers could see the applique could be completed either way.

When I took my Christmas decorations down I had a we potter and changed a few things around in my home.

Another Block of the Month 'Home Coming Lane' and the Raggy Ann Prim doll I made on an old painters ladder.

My holidays have been filled with working on a new Block of the Month, which of course I can not show you just yet!
Leaving you with a final photo of 'The Helper'.......................can you spot him??

quilts, quilts & more quilts part two

First up.........
A class sample. This is one of those wonderful Buggy Barn 'whack n' stack' quilts. Kerryn made her sample using reproduction fabrics. I had fun quilting this one. (August 2013, is how long this one was in hiding for our New Years launch!) A few different quilting things this time..........................

A few echoing swirls & boxy feathers.

Raewyn made the other class sample, if you fancy, pop over to her blog to see that one too!

Next up...............................................

A block of the month, a Birdhouse design called 'My Garden'. A combination of piecing, English paper piecing (hexagons) & stitcheries.

You will notice I have pinned the attached binding back to the carpet so you can see the border. Once again the bindings were kindling stitched down by some of The Country Yard fairies.
Kerryn used Aurifil 12 weight threads for the stitcheries. If you haven't tried these threads you don't know what you are missing! Scrumolishous!

The second photo shows the centre of the quilt, stars. I simply 'orange peeled' them & some cross-hatching.

The last one of this quilt is for you back lovers.

The last few weeks at the shop, we have sold the last of some older BOM's, so this meant for me I could bring some of my quilts home!

This one, 'Homecoming Lane' is a Gail Pan design was made as a BOM for the shop back here. Looks quite nice on my bed.
But then yesterday after four years I got to bring this beauty home! Seemed like a changing of the guard was called for!

This is a Sue Daley design called 'Under the Southern Stars'. English paper piecing & applique. I made this quilt in only eight months, amazing what a self induced deadline will get accomplished! See my blog post about this one.
Lots of photo's in this post I know. Next time I will show you the another new BOM I have been working on.

Until then, be kind to yourself, for you are your own best friend!
