Quilting for Laura!

Hello Quilty Friends!
It's June & wouldn't you know it June is my birthday month. Another year wiser??
Ok no comments about that thank you 😀
Over the last few years my long time friend & decided to stop giving each other birthday presents & spend a few days together enjoying each others company. We don't cook, we eat out or buy takeaways & knit, talk (oh do we DO LOTS OF that!) & we go go for a scenic bike ride somewhere. Last year I combined my birthday trip south with a quilt retreat. It's located at one of my most favourite places. It's fully catered, so once again a few more days of no cooking, that's always an added bonus. Last year another friend joined me at retreat, what a cool way to spend time with crafty friends.
This year my lovely friend Julie from My Threadbare Life joined me at retreat. We sewed, ate together, went for walks together & even "escaped" retreat to go out for a nice coffee & some opshopping. If you follow Julie you will know she is a pro at finding some amazing treasures at opshops, I may have pointed out a few goodies to add to her pile!
Julie & I swapped birthday presents too as our birthdays are both in June.
Before I headed away I worked hard to finish Laura's three quilts so I could deliver them personally & finally meet her. Let me show you Laura's beautiful quilts:

Now that Julie has her birthday present from me I can show you! I found a gorgeous piece of vintage silk dupioni which a quilted into a table runner for her:

It's VERY difficult to capture the true colour.

From the same fabric I made a cushion.
As yet I haven't listed it in my shop - but it is for sale! 😉

Speaking of my shop, while I was away I was over the moon to be notified I sold the Satin Duffle Bag! Whoopwhoop....as a small business owner I am ALWAYS happy when this happens.
Have you visited my shop? Here's the link if you are interested, perhaps you know someone else that might like to go shopping with you??

A table runner, a hug quilt and a few critters.............

Lois made this striking table runner for her daughter as part of her birthday present. Lois asked for some custom quilting. Thank you Lois, I'm sure your daughter will be delighted!

Next is a quilt hug Cat made for her daughters singing teacher. Cat supplied a vintage sheet for the backing.

Measuring 53" x 78" it makes for a nice hugging/cuddling size. I experimented with the plump swirls and added a few feather plumes and hearts.

Here I am attaching the binding, you can see the lovely retro sheet........................

Thanks Cat for letting me be part of this precious gift of love and caring.

Last but not least for today's post I am linking up with Linda and Julie's "Sew-Stitch-Snap-Share"

Juliet from Tartankiwi design this wonderful distraction just for me!  Woodland quiltalong2 and I just couldn't say no! So my poor Running Zebra (also one of Juliet's designs) has been on the back burner while I stitch and flip these foundation pieced critters.

Once I had my four critters made "Farnley" - the fawn "Henry" - the hedgehog "Ollie" - the otter and "Kingi' - the kingfisher I then dithered about what to do with them? My husband said what about a table runner? Now this comes from a husband that doesn't like anything on our dinning room table! I let his idea jingle around for a few days then went with it, I did add a hanging sleeve so it can be hung on the wall if the mood strikes!

I have quilted several of Juliet's quilts for her so knew all about the fiddly ditch stitch in front me as I came to execute the quilting. I then set about quilting the background with a wood grain effect.

I used a large selection of fabrics, but my two main fabrics were the lovely olive green which is a Alison Glass print and the abstract teal print by Joel Dewberry.
Then a flange binding...........finished! I keep saying how much I love this table runner/ wall hanging, so does my husband. Thanks again Juliet for the distraction :-)

quilts, quilts & more quilts

Fancy more sneak peeks?
Oh I couldn't do that to you all again......so soon! You have had enough sneak peeks to last you until Santa comes calling!
First up...................................................

This Amish Barn quilt was made by Kerryn as fabric inspiration for some fabric new to the shop. Take the feature fabric, cut a large square of it. Take some of the co- co-ordinating fabric & make stars. Sew them all together & you have a dashing quilt!
Using poly 'soft & bright' batting I quilted the 'organic' cross-hatching through the middle piece of feature fabric, followed by some straight lines & curling ribbon. This quilt measures 60" x 60".

Secondly.....................................

A Muted Nine patch table runner. Measuring 19" x 64" this is a lovely runner. Quilted over cotton batting with an all over design & cross-hatching on the nine patches, using Gunold & Madeira poly threads. This is a available as a kit or pattern.
A photo of the front & back, just for you! Note all these quilts at the time of photographing needed the binding stitched down, lucky some special fairies came to help out! Thank you fairies, you know who you are.

Last, but not least.......................................................

Antique Lace! A whack & stack method of piecing this pretty quilt, add some old Doilies & lace. Cotton batting was used as well at Madeira poly threads with an all over pattern except on the doilies, they got some special treatment. Of course where would we be with out a feather on the border? 64" x 64".

See some of those pretty lacey goodies.......very pretty....it can be hard to cut them up, but this way they are being used. If you have ones that are stained & you have given them a good soak, but still the mark is there, just cut it off, or plan to sew a button on!

This will be available as a class at the shop if you are interested.
back soon with part two......................................................
