Whimsical, Whisper and Mothers Day....................

The theme of my custom quilting "week - or - so"  has been whimsical and feathery.........rather nice!
Lois asked if I could please custom quilt this pretty stitchery sampler for her. I emailed a couple of border ideas for her to choose from even though Lois was happy for me to make the quilting choices.

Lois chose the whimsical feathers for her border so that choice paved the way for the rest of the quilting.................sometimes I work like that, from the border inwards!

The centre stitchery block was too large to leave un quilted so some more whimsical quilting was well suited. The quilt measures 37" x 43" and Lois chose cotton batting.

Thank you Lois. Next up is the sweet little cot quilt Jenny made to take to Scotland for a family member.

I love this panel, so much so that I asked Jenny to buy me one for me if she sees another one like it. Anyhow Jenny wanted edge to edge quilting (aka: E2E or all over quilting) I went with a new panto pattern I had called "whisper" and used Fantasico thread in the colour ' Silverado'. As the quilt is going to Scotland Jenny chose wool batting.

This is such a strange photo because the backing fabric that Jenny supplied is Navy, but look at the photo it looks mauve! Anyhow you can see the fun quilting pattern.

Sunday was Mothers Day and here in Whangarei it was magic weather, perfect for tramping!

A nice leisurely walk up Mt Manaia then back down the opposite side through an old possum trapping track out into farmland. That part was not quite so leisurely!

How was your Mothers Day?

Sampler Quilt

Pretty in pink........that's what I would call this quilt. Leonie has been busy taking part in a modern block swap & piecing together the following quilt for her soon to be six year old daughter.

Leonie wanted cotton batting & custom quilting. A beautiful pieced backing (which I'm sorry, for some reason I didn't take a photo), a vintage sheet in the mix.

I did a mix of free motion 'bits n' bobs'...........you know the wiggles & squiggles! As well as some straight lines. Not to forget feathers!

You may remember I did a quilt for Cat earlier in the year, she too took part in the same block swap. See here for Cat's version.

But wait there is more............................................

Using mainly Madeira poly neon threads, there was a few hours stitching involved. Leonie is now on the job of binding.
Receiving a rather emotional thank you from Leonie was a lovely way to realise she was happy with the quilt.

Looky, looky what arrived in my mail box yesterday............................

Back in May I pre ordered this book from Judi of Greenfairy Quilts. I knew it would be a goodie. Although I had a long wait for the book to arrive, it was worth it! And after all, don't they say all good things come to those who wait?
Judi, in my humble opinion does the most breath taking quilting,  truly a work of art. This book comes with a CD with printable patterns.

More customers quilts finished

Jill has been busy making table runners for Christmas presents. Jill is a newbee to quilting & is going great guns!
Five table runners, four with tea cups, one with roses. The tea cup runners I did simple straight lines & stipple, for the rose runner, I did scrolls & stipple.

This table runner is now ready to be trimmed for the binding, which Jill had me attach for her ready to hand stitch down.

Carol has also been busy making this next quilt for her daughter for Christmas. Jill made this quilt at a class at Grandmothers Garden with Ngaire Brookes.

Another lovely braid border that I quilted an orange peel design, in the cream border I broke the area up a bit with straight lines & a scroll/feather design. On the red ( not sure you can see that clearly) a curling ribbon.
I had the perfect stencil for the setting triangles.

Some of you might be thinking that I do a lot of sampler quilts....well you would be right! I am happy as I can explore new quilting ideas. I like each sampler block to be different, but have some continuity over the whole quilt. So for example, the curling ribbon I have used on the above block has also been used on the red border.

I used my favourite threads, Madeira polyneons & my up & coming new favourite, Gunold. I have bought quite a few new threads in the last few weeks to try.

The Christmas tree is up & decorated.....by me, my boys no longer think it is cool to get into the buzz of decorating for Christmas. Maybe I will take some photo's of what I did & blog about it. Maybe.......I have a new computer with a completely new operating system that is very different to what I am use to, so this post alone has taken a good couple of hours!!
