Friday Village

A.K.A - Moda's "Be My Neighbor". The Country Yard  joined in on this 'neighborly' sew along in their own style.

Isn't this a friendly happy quilt? Kerryn asked for custom quilting. I attempted to quilt in a sampler fashion, quilting something a little different in each house. Here it is loaded on my machine reading for the quilting - A.K.A icing or frosting!

The quilt measures 71" x 86" Kerryn supplied the polyester batting and asked for the
Full Quiltmekiwi Binding Service.

Ok now what you stopped by to see, the quilting................................................

This little boat is sailing rough seas!

I used several colours of Glide thread.

As well as photo's of the thread I took a photo of the back......didn't I do well?!

The finished quilt. Thank you Kerryn. Has anyone else made this quilt? What fabrics did you use?

One of my own....................

It's not often I finish one of my own quilts so I thought you might like to join me in celebration by reading this post about my recent finish. Started back in 2015.......................

That was my flimsy, so somewhat finished right? Well it sat tucked away with the label and pieced backing fabric until that magic day when I had time to quilt it in between paid quilting! A couple of weekends back I decided it was time to get this quilt really finished.

The Country Yard (where I used to work) often has mystery projects this was one such project. Those who participated were given a set of rules and a piece of fabric that had to be used in each 'round'. That piece of fabric was a tapemeasure print fabric by Sweetwater called 'Elementary'. I thought my stash of Kansas Troubles worked well together.

This was labour intensive quilting but I am really pleased with my efforts. I used two layers of batting which I have been wanting to try after reading time after time that my quilting idols in USA have been using so often. The results are pleasing, some extra texture...........and I love texture! Warm and Natural Cotton and Matilda's Own Wool batting as the top layer.

I decided to piece a backing starting with a panel then some other fabrics that worked in with the panel.

I made a flange binding which helps frame my quilt off nicely. So is my personal pile of quilts at zero? No! Will it ever be?............................

I am linking up with Linda and Julie for "Sew-Stitch-Snap-Share". If you want see the post I did about The Country Yard's sample of this medallion you can click *here* also if you fancy reading my progress from the start of my quilt click *here* and *here*. Thank you to Linda and Julie for the gentle push along by creating a fun link up.

Please keep popping back to my blog and also my Facebook and Instagram pages as I have some really fabulous quilts to share in the coming weeks and months, some I have to keep secret for what feels like a life time! There are some amazing quilt makers out there.

"Chopsticks"......................................

Hello and welcome on this winter Wednesday. The wind is howling throwing fallen leaves into mini tornado's! Enough of the weather, time to share Chopstick's a Jaybird Quilts design.
Kerryn, owner of The Country Yard asked me to custom quilt her sample, yippie this quilt is super nice! Here is the 'before-quilting' photo......................

Kerryn supplied the cotton/poly batting. The quilt measures 62" x 83" and is made using Moda fabric by Sweetwater called "Sunday Supper".

Using Glide thread in the colours 'Linen' and 'Ocean' I set to work play!! Using a straight edge ruler and one of my ProEcho rulers and free hand quilting.

Kerryn requested the "Full Quiltmekiwi Binding Service", which is to attach pre-made binding (or I can make it) to the back and bring forward to the front of the quilt top stitching in place, or attach the binding to the front the quilt and hand stitch the binding to the back of the quilt. In this case Kerryn wanted the binding completely attached by machine.

The whole quilt, quilted and binding attached ready to hang in the shop along with fabrics, patterns and kits.

Last week I celebrated another birthday and I was treated to some lovely presents!

Thank you my friends and loved ones. Last weekends tramping was a treat also, after a short drive to Sandy Bay we had a lovely walk through farm land, forest, beaches and Whananaki where we stopped at the local country school to share in a Mid winter Christmas lunch.

Every single time I am out exploring I feel so lucky to be apart of all the beauty.

The last couple of weeks has been very slow progress on my Running Zebra quilt, but I do have a neck and mane!

Linking up with the lovely Linda and Julie for "Sew-Stitch-Snap-Share". Thanks ladies, you are keeping me somewhat motivated!

Thank you for stopping by, happy creating and take time to enjoy the paradise you live in!

"Naughts and Crosses"

That's the name of this quilt I made several weeks back. Made from a layer cake and a solid cream.

The layer cake is by Sandy Gervais for Moda, the range is called "Everlasting" which how I feel about my friend I have gifted this to.
Scroll through the quilting, label and binding process............................

Matilda's Own Wool batting would have to be my favourite batting, so nice to work with and it shows off the textures of the quilting brilliantly.

Some straight framing lines, 'scribbling' and pebbles add some delicious textures to keep your eye wandering over the quilt.
Can you spot my 'Amish' (AKA- humble block) block in the next photo?

I used a Glide thread for the swirls and loops in a colour called 'Bark' and the cream squares I used a cream Madeira thread.

I saw a photo on Pinterest which lead me to kelbysews blog, she had made this quilt, no mention of where the pattern came from, although I am supporter of buying patterns, there wasn't one to buy (not that I could track down). It was easy to add cream squares to the layer cake squares and trim! You see I made the flange binding again, here's the link for the tutorial if you missed last time.
Then there was the label, same heart felt saying as on some earlier quilts, this time drawn on a vintage doiley that my friend gifted me.

I have been keeping up with regular walks up and around Mt Parihaka as I am keen to take on the Tongariro Crossing again this year, so I have to keep up my fitness and it's just so lovely up there!

Check out the view from the top.................so worth it!

That's a south/west view of Whangarei, looks amazing on a clear day.
