Secret Saturday!

Hello friends and quilt lovers, glad you could make it back for a visit. I'm pleased to share some quilts that have been secrets for a few weeks, only the odd sneak peek here and there that is until now!
The lovely quilt store where I work one day a week had it's annual 'New Years Launch' today. (even though we are well into the New Year, the girls need time to make all the lovely goodies)

First from this pile is "Block" from the Growing up Modern book. Kerryn, shop owner extraordinaire asked for the  same quilting as featured in book for this one.

Looks a bit like giant Lego blocks don't you think? I used Fantastico thread in the colour 'Playhouse'.
Kerryn also had me attach the binding completely by machine.

A snippet of the backing...........................................

Next is the second quilt for the shop, from the same book, "The Colour Block Quilt. This time Kerryn went for edge to edge quilting.

I chose 'Turbulence' using Glide thread in the colour 'Linen', once again Kerryn asked for a full binding service.
And the back...........................

The last one (for today, more another day) is an inspirational piece, made just for that purpose to inspire, sometimes when you see bolts of fabric in a range something needs to be made so the customers can really see the fabrics.

Kerryn asked for 'organic' cross hatching and the full binding treatment. There a some super cute fabrics in this range, called 'Darling Little Dickens'.........so soft and muted.

So there are three quilts I have another two to share soon. I will leave you with a couple of photo's of my last adventure out tramping. See you again soon!

A dipping of feet as we wove our way back and forth over this stream.

Fancy rustling up a gourmet meal in the 'rustic' -rusty oven?

Baby quilt, Christmas in July & spring??

As quilters we love to make, create & give. A wedding, a birthday, a 'thinking of you' & welcome new baby.

A new grand baby has arrived, what better way to say "I love you", than with a handmade quilt. Made with love, then the new baby will be wrapped in that love & warmth. Christine asked me to quilt this lovely soft welcoming quilt for her. 'Organic' cross hatching was her choice, as was cotton batting. I used a Gunold Variegated thread. Quilt size 47" x 64".

Last week I received my 'Christmas in July' presents from Vicki. A lovely angel bag, Christmas tree shaped oven mitt & Christmasy wallhanging. Thank you Vicki.

My presents went to Ann in Australia (no blog).

Snowman wallhanging, a Birdbrain pattern, stitched using Cottage Garden Thread, hung on a rusty hanger.

A Christmasy hand towel.

Lastly a Christmasy star. This is a Birdhouse pattern. Plus I put some other goodies in her parcel, just because!

As a winter lover I was feeling very ripped off today,as it was so warm! Where is our winter? Spring seems to be springing into my winter!!

more swap presents,a book finish & customer quilts

I have finished a few customer quilts this week, here are two panel quilts. The first is a Beatrix Potter panel simply quilted with bobbin thread top & bottom using an 'organic' cross hatch. The tractor panel, same threads, but I just quilted 'organic' one way to look like a ploughed field. Organic gives you such freedom! This is a great one for a quilt that you don't want the quilting to be the feature, simply a texture.
I also finished an awesome quilt with a large appliqued digger, but I forgot to take a photo of it!

The next quilt is another beauty by Vivian, This one is called Hunter's Star, I love the vibrant, cheerfulness of this quilt. Vivian gave me free range on this one.

I did an allover hooked loop using a Gunold variegated thread, then a petal in each diamond shape to show off the star, that now looks more like a flower!! I used Madeira polyneons for this.

The pieced border was given the curling ribbon treatment & the blue borders I simply echoed the same design as the main part of the quilt, it gives a feather look with a difference!

Now it's time to show you some more swap presents, but first a special present from a special friend, who said I could open it yesterday, & you can see why.................

I think if you click on this photo you will see the details such as the rusty stars, the cinnamon quills etc.............isn't it cool, now you can see why I was allowed to open it early, so I could enjoy it before Christmas is over, but I might not put it away!!!

Thimleberries pattern, Baahurrah farm 'coffee pot' soap! A lovely CD, recipe cards, a candle in a tin & at least a metre ( yard) of reproduction fabric! Thanks Dawn!

I finished another of Rosie Boom's books, "Where the Arrows Fly", from The Barn Chronicles. Not 3 hours later Rosie came into the shop , so I got to meet her! Great news there is a third book, "Where the Crickets Sing" & she has nearly finished the fourth book!

Before I go, I wanted to share a photo of a cheeky Magpie I got a photo of from out our window.
