Wrapping up the quilting week and a bit of last week too........................

Hi there friends! Nice to have you back for another visit to see what I have been up to. Quilting and a bit of tramping and of course other life necessities, that's what's been happening!

The first quilt to share is Sue's, lovingly made for one of her granddaughter's who is soon to marry a man from Turkey. I think Sue did well to add some touches of Turkey through the quilt.

Sorry no full photo, much too soggy and wet to be taking quilts outside at the moment. The bulk of the quilt is made with creams and whites, then Sue added the strips of the richly colourful 'Turkey' fabric. She asked for an edge to edge design and chose 'Pashmini' and she also chose the Maderia AeroQuilt thread in the following shades top and bobbin:

The quilt measures a rather large : 88" x 107". I'm sure it will be well loved and treasured throughout the years.

The next quilt is also one of Sue's. A cute little ( 42" x 44") one made for a special little girl for her first birthday.
Edge to edge pattern : "Butterflycharm", thread Gunold in softly pinks - white.

You can see the butterfly's on the pretty backing quite nicely.

Next is Gaynor's Chateau Hexagon quilt. A Lynette Anderson' button Mystery from 2015.

These are sweet little quilts with so much charm and interest with the stitchery, applique and the finishing touch of the hand painted buttons, which Gaynor will add now the quilting is complete. Gaynor ask for light custom quilting.

Adding a few quilted flowers in between the beautifully hand stitch flowers added a point of difference and dimension.

At 26" x 37" this makes for a perfect wall hanging in an entrance way or a sewing room. Below is a photo of the back.................................

Last weekend I did a couple of small tramps and spotted a few photo worthy opportunities that had me stop and take my phone out to snap a shot.

And this as I came round the corner................ a scramble under the fallen tree then a quick phone call to the council to alert them.

That was part of last week and part of this week, I hope your's was interesting and productive?

Chateau Hexagon

Yes poppets FINALLY finished! So many months, many of them were spent resting (the quilt, not me!)

I bought my patterns from The Country Yard way back.............................crikey LAST year!
Lynette Anderson has designed many Button Mystery Block of the Months, see here for the first one 'My Garden', then here for 'Christmas Fun'.

Because I have a love affair with Kansas Troubles fabric (designed by Lynne Hagmeier) this was my choice of fabrics along with some wool felt.
The background fabrics came from my large loyal collection of creams.

Lynette designs the cutest hand painted buttons that really bring a quilt to life. As you can see I had fun playing with feathers on the border, I think I may go back and add more quilting in the blocks, for now it is hung in my bedroom on the quilt rack my son made me.

If you remember I had a few problems with the appilque (see here for the post about that) but Lynette was a fabulous help to me, she came up with a new setting for my blocks and asked me if I would test the new Apliquick Tools she had just started to stock. Please see this post for that story and tutorial.
There is no going back to 'the other way of appliqueing' for me!

Loving my vintage doliey for the label. Check out your local Opshops/charity stores...................if I haven't already bought them all!

This quilt looks lovely in my room with my Buggy Barn 'Quilters Village' quilt and cushions.

Another finish, this time Christmasy.

This time the fabrics were Lynette Anderson's, the thread: Cottage Garden 'Waratah', the stitchery was from Chestnut Junction the cushion construction was just me playing one Sunday afternoon some weeks back.

sharing Friday

Hi there readers!

Just sharing a few odd bits & pieces to fill a space while I put the finishing touches on my first customer quilt of 2014. In some ways I have had a slower pace over the holiday break, in other ways I haven't.
We have been busy on the home front painting, so this meant a wee break from quilting, but I am back into work full steam ahead!
My head held a list of 'Leeanne projects' for the holiday period, but painting took over! I find the hours in the days are never what we think. Still I did manage to finish few  things between family visiting etc..........don't tell anyone, but I still haven't taken my Christmas tree down!

Seven Hand towels got a make over, from plain towels to towels perfect to give as a gift.
Adding a strip of fabric & in some cases RicRac or lace. These now rest in my gift box awaiting a birthday or 'thinking of you' gift.

some lace & Ricrac

These guys I LOVE!!!! This is the second one I have made, I loved the first one, then decided to make another to gift a friend. Although I am not big at on line shopping ( I like to support local) I did fall in love with this pattern, I could only buy the pattern (PDF file) from Craftsy...................

see the rusty safety pin?

The white fabric I had was too 'white' so I got out the Parisian Essence to create the prim look.............maybe they look like they were starting to melt & spilt their coffee on themselves!
You can see I didn't quilt stars on their tummies, as shown on the pattern, instead I stitched old buttons & domes, even a rusty safety pin instead of the quilting..........makes them look more primitive.

As most of you know, as well as running my quilting business, I work part time at The Country Yard, sometimes I make samples for the shop, some of these samples are Block of the Months, remember last years BOM?
'Janet's Quilt' By Buggy Barn
Well I have another one to make, it is just as lovely, but like all good things they have to remain a secret for the time being. I will share more snippets as I progress. Here is some of the fabrics I will be using.................................

Teehee.....see the Christmas stitchery still hanging!
With fabric names like: Pine Tree Lodge, Double Chocolate, heritage Prints, Forever Spring, Audra's Iris Garden, Cinnamon Spice & Floral Gatherings (to name just a few) you just know it's going to be yummy!
So with quilting, work , & a new BOM to work on, my Chateau  Hexagon might have to go into resting. But here is where I'm at so far.

Still plenty of stitching to do on month 8, you can bet the last month will be banging on my door any day now! There is no harm in this project having a wee rest, is there?

To finish off my post I will leave with a sweet little mouse, my friend Julie  gifted me. I just haven't had the heart to put him away yet as he is just so darn cute! I guess when I finally put my tree away, he will get put away until this years Christmas.

Chateau Hexagon

With some help from Lynette I managed to get my rather 'different' blocks together.
You will notice many of my blocks are reverse to the pattern, that's just me forgetting to reverse when I have done my back basting needle turn! Which usually doesn't matter, but in this case it did. I have a different layout to the pattern too.

I will leave you with the photo's.

See how I stitched the tree roots over the driveway turn around................................
I wonder what the next two months will bring?

Chateau Hexagon block 3 & a sneaky peek

I am happy with my progress on these blocks albeit slow. I like the texture the stitching & touch of wool............see the wheelbarrow wheel?

A little peek of my next customer quilt, this is another heirloom. More to come.
Thanks for stopping by, enjoy your day!

Chateau Hexagon, stories, 1 xmas item & a win

Having a spot of down time meant I got on with another Chateau Hexagon block. These blocks are relatively quick to finish........well so far, maybe I am 'jumping the gun' & speaking too soon :-/
I am enjoying putting a small amount of felted wool in each block.

Can you spot the felted wool?
No doubt you have guessed I use a hoop for my stitching.............I wonder how I guessed you knew??

My quilting hours are pleasantly filled with the sound of someone reading me a story. I really enjoy talking books, as I love to read books, but struggle to fit everything into my day, this is a great way to 'read' a book. I can quilt & 'read' a book. Two things at once......fantastic invention.
I particularly enjoyed "Those Faraday  Girls", a great full story, with many twists & turns. All about a Dad & his five daugthers through the years....................

1 xmas item...........hosted by Narelle..................A Gail Pan design..... I love her stuff!

I used Cottage Garden Thread called 'Waratah' & a Lynette Anderson fabric for the border & binding.

Some weeks back while visiting a most enjoyable blog Brynwood Needleworks I commented on a giveaway Donna was having...........would you believe it.......I WON! look at my lovely prize.

Thank you Donna!
