Quilter on holiday......................

I am back from a weeks holiday in Wellington, well Linden/Tawa. Stayed at a great place, a nice alternative to a motel. Ferntops  was a perfect home away from home, hubby was at a conference and I came prepared to sew the days away!
This suitcase was full of projects to sew. I got three quilt tops made, only one was from scratch, the other two I had already made a start on. I took my box with 2.5" squares to join as a leader & ender project too.
First was the Christmas stitchery, I had all 16 stitcheries finished. This is a Gail Pan design called 'All Things Christmas' I have made this as a shop sample for The Country Yard which will be available as a kit soon.
Here is a close up of one of the blocks..................
Next....'Jellycake' by Anne Sommerlad from a Australian Country Craft magazine, VOL 21 NO 9 Fabric is 'Petite Odile' from French General. The quilt uses a jelly roll & a layer cake. This will be a present for one of my nieces.
 Last but not least...............

This one is not quite finished as I want to put a sashing (maybe dark brown? ) then a border. This will be for one of my sisters. Now if you have been following my blog for time you might recognise the star blocks. They have been dusted off from my head ache box , or a more trendy way to say....'upcycled! Yup they were from Orca Bay   now they are living a new life.

Of course I see I have now created more work for myself as these will ALL need quilting!!!!!

I wished I had thought to bring my camera as we stayed & saw some great places, like Creel Lodge, Brown Sugar cafe a great little second hand shop in Taihape, where I bought an old ladder, I met a lovely lady that owns the quilt shop in Taihape called "The Quilted Gumboot'. Krazy Cow Quilts in Levin.

  1. You and your machine must've been humming! All the quilts are fabulous and yes I thought I recognised the star blocks;O)

  2. Doesn't your reindeer look cheerful! Looks like a very productive holiday!

  3. Glad you have a great and productive holiday! Love the colours in your recycled OB stars. Mine is still waiting to be quilted :)

  4. Boy, you were busy. They are all great. I really love the Gail Pan Christmas one -feeling very tempted. I am feeling the need for a trip up to the shop soon!!!!!!

  5. The christmas one would make a great block of the month Leanne!!!!

  6. Well done on a productive week - you obviously had a jolly good sew!. Love them all - nice to see you recycling those Orca Bay blocks, they have come up really nicely. Seems like the quilter is going to be really busy!

  7. Wow you had a very busy and productive time
Leeanne. I look forward to seeing the christmas quilt when the quilter has added the finishing touches. You certainly made good use of the orca bay blocks, good on you. Hope you also had time for some 'sightseeing'. I recognise the area you stayed in, a great spot so close to a city.

  8. Your finished projects look gorgeous-love the stitchery! Taihape has some wonderful shops! Glad you had a great break, Michelle.

  9. Hey Chicky, Love the Orca Bay blocks. You were a busy girl and achieved more than I did! Well done on getting some sewing done, and hope you found a space for that ladder.

  10. So that is how to get lots of sewing done!
It looks a lovely place to stay.
We have been to brown Sugar cafe many times. Love the food but they shouldn't use cracked or chipped crockery.
Didn't know about Creel Lodge that looks a good one.

  11. Like your own little quilting retreat. I'm off on retreat this weekend - hope I'm productive as you.

  12. Glad to see you have done something with your Orca bay blocks, I know projects like that annoy me until I decide what to do! I went to the quilt shop in Taihape the Kazy Cow too when I went to look after my Mum. The are both cool shops.
