The next quilt was a commission piece.
Elaine contacted me last year to discuss me making a queen sized quilt for her daughter using her daughters treasured clothing. After many consultations back & forth we got on the same 'design page' & I could start the challenge of working with only 12 items of clothing.
I incorporated some fabrics from my stash for a cohesive look.
I started cutting up the clothing, ironing a stabiliser to the back of each piece (stretchy fabric!) & started making blocks. Then the really hard part putting it all together - it was like a HUGE puzzle!
These are not fast or easy projects & it's why when people ask me to make them a quilt like this they are usually put off by my quote!
But Elaine was not fazed, she wanted a special keepsake for her daughter to treasure for years to come.
And that folks is what quilts are all about.

The clothing plus some fabric to bulk it out to queen sized.

Vintage linen was made by Elaine's aunty.

New - ish in my quilt shop is this sweet one for a horse mad person:

For those needing a laugh or reality check:

  1. I like how the red pohutukawa fabric really pops in the first quilt Leeanne. Gosh if someone asked me to do something like that (2nd quilt) ... I would put it in the too hard basket. Its tricky using tee-shirts too as they are not cotton. I think you have done such an amazing job of it & the vintage label just finishes it off perfectly. I am sure the recipient will treasure it forever! xx
