This stunning, textural and colourful quilt - a design by Sue Spargo, last years mystery block of the month "Folk Tails". It is nearly 100% wool, minus a few applique shapes and the backing, Raewyn even chose wool batting!
Because the applique shapes are reasonably close together I didn't get too much play space with my quilting, but I did create more texture!
Some areas were very very thick, especially where each background piece is joined. I chose one of my fine blending threads in black to create texture. The background quilting has really helped make Raewyn's lovely applique and embroidery real come to the forefront!
Using the applique design on the border as my quilting guide I quilted geometric maze type 'blocks'.
Part of the Block of Month included a pre printed quilt label that Raewyn embroidered her name and date on, which Raewyn had me attach before I commenced quilting. Also part the package was this specially printed backing fabric!
Thanks so much Raewyn for once again 'letting me loose' on one of your quilts! I'm sure it will look fabulous hanging in your home.
I have had a lovely weekend away, my youngest daughter got married over on the Gold Coast. After battling our way through Auckland traffic hubby and I made it to the airport!
It's not often I am with all my children at one time and can grab the opportunity to nab a few decent photo's! When I say decent, I mean one (or ALL of them!) of them NOT making silly faces!
The view from our hotel 21 floors up! Not sure I would want to live like this.
Home again back to quilting!
Gorgeous quilt and quilting designs Leeanne. Lovely family photo too.
