Quilting for Beverley, Judith & Theresa

Hello Quilty Friends!

Welcome back for more quilts made by my customers & quilted by me.
The first one is a panel given to me by Beverley. She saw a panel I had quilted with a simple E2E quilting design in my local quilt shop & asked for the same.
Then Judith's gorgeous Pineapple quilt,
this was the last quilt top that Judith's beloved sister made before passing.
No doubt the colourful quilt will be held close with special memories.
Theresa asked me to revamp her sons well loved Motocross duvet cover into a quilt to ensure it lasts for many more years. I even have a time lapse video of me working this project.

A mystery quilt revealed and a new life for a vintage linen...............................

Hi there quilt watchers and makers, thanks for taking the time to stop by. Today I am sharing a lovely quilt made by Kerryn owner /operator of The Country Yard who ran a mystery quilt evening last Friday. Kerryn had me quilt the sample up that was shown well into the 'mystery' evening.

Made using dark and light 5" squares this is a gem of a scrap buster quilt! Kerryn asked for an all over quilting design and chose "Resplendent" and I used Warm Grey Glide thread which blended nicely over all the jewel box of country colours.

With the sashing and borders this quilt measures 73" square. The batting is a Matilda's Own polyester. Isn't it a lovely quilting pattern! Below is a photo of the back.

I decided upon finding an over flowing shoe box full of 5" squares I should and NEED to participate in the class...................it wasn't a mystery for me but still most enjoyable. I have made one quarter of the quilt so far.

A friend had a birthday recently and I like to give her a gift every year only this year I wasn't sure what to give. Then one day when I was having a play date at my machine something quite nice was evolving that I thought would make a nice present.

I used two layers of batting, one a polyester the other wool and my nice fine thread and really got stuck in with some heavy background fills and feathers. Then I topped the edge of the pretty tray cloth with a few tiny beads to hold the edges in place.

A photo of the pretty back....................................

While out on one of my walks last week I spotted this lot lined up at the waters edge.................

 See you next time!

feathers live here...................

Hi there! This is the place to be today if you love feathers, I have them in abundance!

This beauty is a class sample for The Country Yard called 'Star Mastery'. Featuring several different stars. The class is focused on making the stars, the layout is simply an idea, but a lovely idea!

For something a little different I quilted straight lines on the central star blocks treating them separate from the outer stars, there by giving the illusion that the outer stars were 'floating' out to the border.

I enjoyed this concept and I am sure I can used this idea again. Now did I say something about feathers???

I used my curved rulers from Lisa Calle for the arcs,  I then echoed which gave me a nice pocket to place some pebbles in, I used a soft smokey/blue grey poly neon thread by Madeira, this created a soft contrast. Because I went down the road of wanting the feathers to look like they were floating, I had to quilt feathers right up to the striped sashings.

For a touch of continuity from the inner stars to the outer stars I quilted pebbles on the blocks with the primitive muslin background fabrics.

The next quilt features more feathers. Made by Gaynor at a class last year at The Country Yard.

I have quilted several of these lacey antique heirlooms. They can be tricky due to all the open crocheted doilies, you have to be careful to not get your hopping foot caught.

The sashings got a treatment of 'curling ribbon', the borders...........guess???

Thank you so much ladies for letting me loose on your beautiful quilts!

I am looking forward to a small break in quilting while I have my granddaughter to stay, here's hoping she will be keen to spend time with granny in her sewing space!

I still have three more quilts to share with you, so watch this space!

Antique lace and a mystery quilt

Hello friends and readers, nice to have you stop by!
Barbara has been busy finishing quilts ready for Christmas presents, she knows to get her quilts to her quilter nice and early!
Barbara attended another class at The Country Yard some months back to make this beautiful quilt.

Barbara has used some exquisite laces and doiley's, some her grandmother had made, some from her own wedding dress, many she didn't have the heart to cut up, so she kept them whole and will add antique buttons and beads to hold those areas of quilt together.

Barbara chose her favourite batting, bamboo/cotton. I used a soft beige Madeira thread to 'doodle', loops, feathers, hearts and flowers. The quilt measures : 76" x 76". Barbara tells me she will add some hand embroidery as another embellishment.

Oh my, I see some feathers escaped out onto the border!!! Thank goodness Barbara likes my feathers!

The outer cornerstones received some swirled feathers in a contrasting thread.
You might remember several weeks back I quilted Joanne's Anitque Lace quilt, see here. Also, here for the class sample.
Now a couple of 'out in the garden' photo's.

Thanks you Barbara, the family member receiving this stunning quilt will cherish it for sure, what a special family heirloom.

Next up is a quilt I quilted for Kerryn at The Country Yard. Friday night was one of her famous 'midnight madness' classes. The following quilt was what the ladies made on the evening.
I understand lots of fun and laughter were had, along with a few silly antics!

I used Jamie Wallen's all over simple swirl in a variegated Gunold thread in goldish/cream tones, over cotton batting, this quilt measures 64" x 64". Finished off with a curling ribbon on the border.

Thank you Kerryn.

Here in New Zealand we are starting spring, here in Northland however, we are experiencing rain! So much it seems. I had two days this week of sort-of-fineish weather when I should have got out and mowed the lawn, but I just procrastinated about the job and continued quilting my clients quilts. The ground is very wet outside and today has a chill in the air. I did scoot out to take a couple of photo's of a few things that are blooming in my garden.

This glorious Magnolia, I just adore the colour. We are so happy that this tree is flowering as it was one we transplanted a couple of months back. Not so much joy for our Kowhai tree, it seems it has passed away. (insert sad face)

This wee ground cover is so happy, with it's tiny mauve flowers and cheerfulness and memories of my Mum in her better days, gardening away the day. This was a plant she always had in her garden, not sure of the name? Never the less it's my 'Mum's' plant.

Wishing you all a happy Sunday wherever you are, no matter the weather, enjoy the day!
