Sew Wonderful Quilt

This generously sized quilt is one quilt for sale in my shop.
I played with the words - SEW....instead of so wonderful as the fabrics are sewing themed.
Perhaps the quilt would be loved by a sewer?
Or perhaps the colours more than the fabric theme would suit someone's décor?

Custom Quilting Pat's Moroccan Lanterns

Hello again! Followers on Facebook and Instagram have enjoyed snippets of Pat's super yummy 'Moroccan Lantern' quilt. A design exclusive to The Apple Basket .

Measuring 80" x  92" Pat chose wool/polyester batting and a lovely deep charcoal/black backing fabric, hoping to keep this quilt fresh and appealing enough for Pat's 12yr old grandson. I used Glide and Superior's Fantastico threads.

Keeping in mind this quilt was going to be for a young man we banned any 'frilly-dilly' quilting pushing it's way onto this quilt! Swirls and straight lines seemed a good masculine choice.

After a break over coffee I finally came up with the design for the 'lanterns'. A series of angled double lines to create a diamond effect much like a lantern.

Thank so much Pat, here's hoping your grandson will love the quilt, if not I know there will be some takers...........me included!

While walking on Sunday back from Cape Brett I spotted these Fungi on a tree, I thought they were really pretty. Thanks for stopping by.

More customer quilts............................

Welcome back, I remembered I hadn't shown two quilts that I had shared sneak peeks of on Facebook, so here we go.

First is Christine's "Stitchers Garden" quilt. Made at a class at The Apple Basket using many embroidery stitches on your machine. Christine asked for ditch stitching and a few areas with just straight lines, so there is no fancy quilting to show you!

All the blocks have embroidered backgrounds so even if Christine had wanted more quilting it would be limiting. See this post *here* and another* here* for two other Stitcher's Garden quilts made by some of my other customers, they are both quite different.

Once all the ditch stitching was completed, it was just a matter of quilting some straights lines on some of the sashings and the border.

Next is Raewyn's layer cake quilt.

Raewyn wanted an all over quilting design, she chose "Square Spirals" and a Glide thread called Mocha and Matilda's Own "Oh so Soft polyester batting.

Both of these quilts and Margaret's "Dear William" quilt will be on show at the Whangarei Patchworker's & Quilters exhibition in April.

You may have seen on Facebook that the chicken came back for another session in our garden. Apparently her name is "Fatso"......... so the chicken's owner told us. He, the owner, (8yrs old, going on 50yrs!) came around the other night asking if we had seen his chicken. My thoughts went to "Fatso's" well being, perhaps she has left home due to the terrible name she has had planted on her? Perhaps she feels due to her 'fatness' she needs to take up walking? By the way she is not fat, she is rather beautiful.

Stitchers Garden and a birthday celebration.

Check out Jacki's stunning "Stitchers Garden" quilt! Made in a class at The Apple Basket.

Made with some gorgeous scrummy fabrics, linens, textured fabrics and fabrics with a slight overlay of sparkle for a teeny bit of 'bling'!
You may remember seeing the same design a couple of months back when I quilted Chris' version. See this post.
Jacki asked for a few points of difference, in her words :"no frilly dilly stuff"...............................
So it was straight lines in and 'frilly dilly' quilting out!!

One of the challenges I faced with this beautiful quilt was the applique blocks have already been quilted, the backgrounds have a semi lofty stabilizer on the back side and each background has it's own 'quilting'. You will notice the above block shows diagonal decorative  pin tucking, so this was my challenge, I was reluctant to do any quilting in the background.

You can see in the photo above the decorative stitching on the background fabric, all that can be done on these blocks is ditch stitching as not interfere with these decorations. Some of SID (stitching in the ditch) had to be 1/8th or 1/4" from the edge of the appliques as the decorative stitching often protruded over the edges of the applique shapes.

A swirl and some curling ribbon on the border wasn't to frilly for Jacki she rather liked the touch and the fact that the fabric is patterned the quilting gives texture more than a stand out quilting design.

I have been quilting for Jacki for several years now and I feel like I know her style : clean lines, simplicity and definitely NO  frills.............................I had to send the feathers packing for this quilt!
Thanks so much Jacki. Back lovers will enjoy the backing of this quilt, Jacki always makes special quilt backs for her quilts.

I like this early morning photo, un- cropped, with my wilderness garden, to the left is a large Australian Frangipani tree waiting for planting.

Monday saw a friend ready for another birthday and why not share it with a few friends? I invited a few friends over to share the celebrations with coffee and cake and of course there were presents!
This is what I nearly didn't give to my friend..............................................

                                     And the back...................................................................

This cushion looked so nice just resting to be wrapped up that I think I shall have to make myself one!

I had one strip of squares left over, so I pondered what to do with the strip? Then I remembered the hand towels I like to decorate.......................................

As much as I like my friend and value our friendship, I did find it hard to wrap these gifts up and give to her, but I did!

                                                                           Enjoy!!
