Three personal finishes.......................

Welcome and Happy New Year! I hope your festive holidays were wonderful. Mine have been great, I have seen family and friends and started a new project and managed to quilt three of my own quilt tops.

Quilt Information:

Pattern - Moda Cake Mix Papers #2
Measurements - 53" x 67"
Batting - Wool/Polyester.
Backing - Blue Paisley.
Quilting - E2E Quilting - Geo Tiles.
Threads - Glide.

I started this quilt at a class at The Country Yard using two Kona Solids and a Moda Layer Cake - Road 15 by Sweetwater. I had a couple of spare blocks left over so one was snapped up to use as a label.

Quilt Information:

Pattern - Strawberries Forever - By Natalia Bonner
Measurements - 61" x 61"
Batting - Wool/Polyester.
Backing - Pieced from scraps.
Quilting - E2E Quilting - Snow Globe.
Threads - Glide.

Natalia asked me if I would do a pattern test for her, she gave me a choice of three patterns, I went with this fun quilt using my 2.5" squares. I haven't put a label on it yet as I haven't decided if it's a keeper or to give as a gift.

 Quilt Information:
Pattern - Scrap Vomit
Measurements - 53" x 53"
Batting - Polyester.
Backing - Pieced scrappy.
Quilting - E2E Quilting - Frilly Hearts
Threads - Glide.

Another quilt made from my 2.5" scrappy squares, this one is for my gift box.

I made three zippered pouches while my granddaughter stayed, they are addictive to make and likable as  my granddaughter has taken all three home! Again using my 2.5' squares people!

We went pony riding, visiting friends alpaca's, made muffins, did sewing together, went to the beach, not always taking a photo, simply enjoying and being plugged into the moment.

A cloud of butterflies & some farm animals

Juliet's "A Cloud of Butterflies" in all it's glory! Juliet is a clever designer of paper pieced (foundation) animals & now butterflies. A while back I quilted Juliet's New Zealand native bird quilt, see here,  Juliet used 'peppered cottons'. This quilt is made with Oakshott cottons.

Apparently Juliet got given a bundle of these lovely fabrics. Juliet has captured the colours & shine much better than I did, we were having one of those dull days here in Northland.
Using Madeira poly neon threads with an all over swirl filler for the creamy background & a selection of other coloured threads for the butterfly details, such as their wings & antennae. Quilting over cotton batting & peppered cotton for the backing.

Just for you back lovers out there is the following photo!

Thank you for your custom Juliet.

Next up is a sample for The Country Yard. This quilt is called " Country Animals Quilt", by The Birdhouse. A fun simplistic design, this quilt top can be whipped up relatively quickly. We used a yummy new range of fabric's from Moda called 'Weave'.

Simple quilting, ditch stitching, loops & a word border. Oh & a 'quilted cow tail'!!

We have made up kits, which include the full pattern, all fabric, including binding, just add your machine, thread & time!

'deadline quilting'

back to quilting, happy days to you!

Customer quilts

Another sample to showcase new fabric in at The Country Yard called 'Fieldnotes' by Blackbird Designs Moda. Designed by Kerryn, owner of The Country Yard. 'Warm & Bright' polyester batting.
Some of my quilting inspiration came from Angela Walter's book 'Free Motion Quilting'.

Diane Gaudynski. gave me the inspiration for this design called 'Celtic Bubbles'. I had a go at drawing the design when I saw it on Diane's blog, but I hadn't found the right quilt to try out this design, I really like it, how about you? ( what's with the finger in the photo? )

Sometimes when I have a nice big open quilting area it is nice to divide the area up, this is what I did in this case. I used my curved ruler to mark the curves, then I echoed. For the inner section I did some large pebbles. I quilted rope on the crimson sashing, orange peel on the checker board & a hook feather on the 'Chinese coins'.

.........some double loops on the busy flower fabric..................

.............some loop feathers & another finger!

For a quilt that has birds, you can't go wrong with feathers!

Apart from the curved ruler & the stencil for this Celtic knot, everything was free formed, no marking......just the way I like it.

Another sample for the shop, this time a panel called 'Baby Zoo Crew'.
Simple quilting, all over double loops for the centre using a soft variegated Gunold thread. Some cross hatching & straight lines & of course ditch stitching.

Pssst.....more secrets revealed! ....................

This quilt is made from Annie Downs book " Some kind of Wonderful" ........and it IS a wonderful book!  I had to buy one for myself. Kerryn made this using  "Itchings" by 3 Sisters of Moda.

I did a loopy, trailing paisley vine all over in a beige Madeira Polyneon thread.
Please don't feel nosy by clicking on the photo's for a closer look!

Next is a wall hanging from Whimsical's Button's & Blooms book
Using the same thread as the previous quilt I did whimsical flowing loops.

Next is another wall hanging made from a panel called " A Quilters Home"

The last of the secret projects................ a table runner ..................... very simple quilting.
And last but not least two cushions for Kerryn. These were both from mini Round Robin groups she was apart of.
this one was from Helen Stubbing's 'stitching Round the Block'
