babies & friends

Quilts for babies are always nice, do you agree? Made with so much love & thought of a wee soul about to take on the world.

Jenny has made this pretty quilt for friends having a baby girl................well so the story was going. A pattern by Country Quilter called "Bear Hugs", measuring 40" x 54". The purchased kit is made up from Bali fabric, then posted off to me ASAP. But, yes there are buts occasionally (not 'butts' people, this is a family show!) So the but was, the friends had a boy! So guess what Jenny is feverishly doing now? Yes indeed, making a boy quilt! I guess this one can be popped away for when a girl quilt is needed.

The sample was quilted with an all over design, I figured I could do something a bit more pleasing to the applique & piecing.
Down to business : Cross hatching, loops, stipple, funky hearts & of course ditch stitching using a Gunold variegated thread in soft peach, mauve, yellow & teal/blue over poly batting. Jenny likes me to make & attach the binding all ready for her to sit & hand stitch in place.

That's the back.
My next quilt features cats, lots of cats! I have nearly finished, but the maker is overseas, so I will have to wait to share with you.
Next is a present I made for my friend Julie as she has had a birthday. The stitchery pattern is from Honeypunkins.

Stitched with Aurifil 12wt thread, a rusty hanger & a couple of wooden pegs.

quilts, quilts & more quilts part two

First up.........
A class sample. This is one of those wonderful Buggy Barn 'whack n' stack' quilts. Kerryn made her sample using reproduction fabrics. I had fun quilting this one. (August 2013, is how long this one was in hiding for our New Years launch!) A few different quilting things this time..........................

A few echoing swirls & boxy feathers.

Raewyn made the other class sample, if you fancy, pop over to her blog to see that one too!

Next up...............................................

A block of the month, a Birdhouse design called 'My Garden'. A combination of piecing, English paper piecing (hexagons) & stitcheries.

You will notice I have pinned the attached binding back to the carpet so you can see the border. Once again the bindings were kindling stitched down by some of The Country Yard fairies.
Kerryn used Aurifil 12 weight threads for the stitcheries. If you haven't tried these threads you don't know what you are missing! Scrumolishous!

The second photo shows the centre of the quilt, stars. I simply 'orange peeled' them & some cross-hatching.

The last one of this quilt is for you back lovers.

The last few weeks at the shop, we have sold the last of some older BOM's, so this meant for me I could bring some of my quilts home!

This one, 'Homecoming Lane' is a Gail Pan design was made as a BOM for the shop back here. Looks quite nice on my bed.
But then yesterday after four years I got to bring this beauty home! Seemed like a changing of the guard was called for!

This is a Sue Daley design called 'Under the Southern Stars'. English paper piecing & applique. I made this quilt in only eight months, amazing what a self induced deadline will get accomplished! See my blog post about this one.
Lots of photo's in this post I know. Next time I will show you the another new BOM I have been working on.

Until then, be kind to yourself, for you are your own best friend!

Well done Lois, we look forward to seeing this on display at our annual exhibition.

an end to the mystery

The Country Yard had another mystery stitchery this year and I did the quilting. I used a stencil & some of my favourite threads, Madeira Polyneon's & Gunold

Mmmmm winter my favourite time of the year!!

The stitcheries where done with Aurifil 12 weight variegated thread and Nancy Halvorsen range of fabrics. The design is exclusive to The Country Yard.
This is the stencil design I used for the large squares, then I modified the design to fit the triangles next to the season stitcheries.

look at the cute mittens! see the nice variegation in the thread?

The vines have sweet little YoYo's that were added after I quilted.
