Monsters and Rockets!

Yes friends this is a quilting blog, a place where you can stop by for a look at the lovely quilts I get to work on, so what on earth are monsters and rockets featuring here? Because they are quilts!

Debbie had many hours of fun making this cheery quilt for her grandson. A kit from Kids Quilts called "Monster Patch". Debbie asked for custom quilting.

I used a mix of Madeira and Gunold threads and just turned on my machine and had fun!

Check out the perfect border fabric!

Now for the rocket quilt. Diane asked me to quilt an all over design (edge to edge).

It really is more of a Space quilt, the navy fabric features glow in the dark stars! Diane asked for a thread that just blends and doesn't really show on the front and a Silver Metallic thread on the back.

Diane bought a panel featuring a Nasa type Rocket for the backing.

Diane also made this quilt for her grandson.
Thank you ladies, I am sure your young men will enjoy the quilts you lovingly made for them.

A winner!

Hello happy people!  I have been waiting patiently to share this lovely quilt with you.

"Affairs of the Heart" is a beautiful applique masterpiece designed by Aie Rossman, made by Ngaire, who dedicated and re- named the quilt 'In Memory of Ruth', her sister.
I was pretty excited when Ngaire asked me to custom quilt this quilt for her and when she said she would be entering the quilt into The Auckland Festival of Quilts under 'Open - small bed quilts, made by two or more people' that was another level of excitement!

Ngaire anxiously waited by the phone on Thursday hoping we would get the call to say we had won, then I got a text to say "WE WON".................pretty exciting!

The quilt measures 61" x 61" with black cotton backing and black backing this is a black beauty!

Ngaire gracefully and happily handed her beautiful quilt top to me with no real rules of what she wanted, I suggested some dense background fillers around the appliques to help make them pop and me being a feather fan, happily recommend feathers on the border as well some scrolls in gold metallic thread, Ngaire said 'Oh Yes please!"

I ditch stitched around every piece of applique to define Ngaire's lovely satin stitched appliques, then some pebbling in the very middle section, then out to the next section I did my version of "Mctavishing' as well as some micro scribbling in selected areas.

I hope I don't sound like a big ego freak, but I really love the quilting, I had so much fun! This was as perfect as a quilt can get to work on, lovely and square, everything just flowed so well.
This is the very first time I have had a quilt in a show for judging, so to come away with a win is the icing on the yummy cake of life!

the back, including the label

This was a lovely quilt let loose with some custom quilting. A big thank Ngaire.

some like it fancy, some like it simple

Hi there! This is an interesting post from the point of view I will show you some examples of the different quilting tastes of my customers. Some of my customers like full on custom quilting, others like simple.
First up is Pauline's three quilts that she was very specific on very simple quilting.

These two quilts are both a feature fabric, in both cases roses, then Pauline has attach two borders. Pauline only wanted ditch stitching on the borders, then to quilt some of the outlines of the flowers. Pauline is fairly new to quilting, so had a few issues with attaching borders, hence some pulling in issues, but over all these are both very pretty quilts.

Next up is a panel fabric that Pauline has attached two rounds of borders. Again simple out line quilting.

I added some gold metallic thread for some bling! Next is a photo so you can see the outline quilting I did & for you backing lovers!

Next for an example of a customer who wanted a bit more quilting, this too is a panel that has been bordered.

Jill wanted me accentuate the features on this Whimsical panel as well as 'something fancy on the border'.

Isn't this a marvelous saying? I love it.

You may remember I quilted this same panel last year for Megan. It is the same panel, just a few more details, such as pieced flowers. See here for the post relating to this quilt.

So after all those examples, what do you like? Simple or custom?

Gollies & Fairies

That's a big title!

Jenny made this & the following quilt. The applique is blanket stitched by hand, I'm guessing the pink flowers will have buttons? For the tan border I tried out some new thread I got given to try. It is a new thread from Aurifil variegated poly, nice thread!

This quilt has a lovely mix of country fabrics, many I recognize as Thimbleberries. If I know Jenny, this was likely to be done as a BOM.
A shot of the back..............................

Jenny's next quilt.....................

Jenny was keen for me to use some gold metallic threads for a bit of 'bling'. I used Gunold's metallic, lovely thread.

Glad you are enjoying them Jenny, take care.

Thanks for stopping by, I am hoping for another productive Sunday, if all goes to plan, keep your fingers crossed for me & I will do the same for you!

Butterflies & Metalic thread

I have had a steady stream of new customers the past few months, Catherine is one. When Catherine saw Lois' quilt she gave up the idea of doing the quilting herself & asked if I could please quilt hers just like Lois'.

Catherine's quilt is larger than Lois'.
Using Mettler's gold Metalic thread, Madeira poly neons, I did loopy stipple, Celtic Bubbles, straight lines & echo feathers over cotton batting.

if you click on the photo you will the gold!

This quilt is actually bright, but it was the end of the day, the sun was disappearing when I took the photo's. I hope Catherine's granddaughter is happy with her quilt.
